Active Stocks on the Move: Chesapeake Energy Corporation (NYSE:CHK), NeuroMetrix Inc. (NASDAQ:NURO), The Kroger Co. (NYSE:KR)

On Tuesday, Shares of Chesapeake Energy Corporation (NYSE:CHK), gained 2.51% to $7.76, as Crude oil prices recovered though from initial declines after bullish U.S. housing data and on bets on an inventory decline, according to Reuters.

Brent oil futures LCOc1 settled up 7 cents at $48.81 per barrel to steady after a three-day fall while U.S. crude CLc1 rebounded from nearly a 6-1/2-year low to settle up 1.8 percent at $42.62. Reuters Reports

Chesapeake Energy Corporation produces oil and natural gas through acquisition, exploration, and development of from underground reservoirs in the United States. It holds interests in natural gas resource plays, counting the Haynesville/Bossier Shales in northwestern Louisiana and East Texas; the Marcellus Shale in the northern Appalachian Basin of West Virginia and Pennsylvania; and the Barnett Shale in the Fort Worth Basin of north-central Texas.

Shares of NeuroMetrix Inc. (NASDAQ:NURO), declined -2.15% to $0.91, during its last trading session.

NeuroMetrix declared preliminary results from a clinical study of the Quell Wearable Pain Relief device in subjects with chronic pain.

The study was an open-label, single-arm, flexible dosing, 60-day trial of Quell for treatment of chronic pain. The average age of the subjects was 56 years and 45% were female. Most had chronic pain for 1-10 years, although nearly a quarter had more than 15 years of pain. The subjects had 3 sites of pain on average and complex medical histories with arthritis (61%), diabetes (40%), sciatica (27%), and fibromyalgia (26%) as the most common. At baseline, 40% of the subjects had severe pain, with the remaining 60% reporting moderate pain.

The primary outcome measure was strongly positive with 81% (95% CI, 71 – 88%) of subjects rating Quell therapy as improving their chronic pain and overall health on a Patient Global Impression of Change scale. Secondary outcome measures were also positive with 67% of subjects reporting a reduction in use of pain medications. Pain intensity, relief, and interference, which were assessed using the Brief Pain Inventory, showed statistically noteworthy improvement over the 60-day study period. The largest measured changes were in pain relief and interference with sleep, general activity, and walking ability.

NeuroMetrix, Inc., a medical device company, develops and markets products for the detection, diagnosis, and monitoring of peripheral nerve and spinal cord disorders, such as those associated with carpal tunnel syndrome, lumbosacral disc disease and spinal stenosis, and diabetes.

Finally, The Kroger Co. (NYSE:KR), ended its last trade with -0.13% loss, and closed at $38.60.

The Kroger Co., declared the establishment of two new supermarket divisions, a Dallas division and a Houston division. Formerly, both markets were served as part of Kroger’s Southwest division.

Kroger also declared that Dana Zurcher has been promoted to serve as president of the company’s new Dallas division. Bill Breetz, who has been serving as president of the Southwest division since 2002, will continue to oversee operations in Texas and Louisiana for the remainder of the year, and serve as president of the new Houston division.

The Kroger Co., together with its auxiliaries, operates as a retailer in the United States and internationally. It also manufactures and processes food for sale in its supermarkets. The company operates retail food and drug stores, multi-department stores, jewelry stores, and convenience stores.
