EnterpriseDB (EDB), declared a contract with Aliyun, the cloud computing arm of Alibaba Group (BABA) to provide a new generation of cloud database service in China.
Through the agreement, EDB’s Postgres Plus Advanced Server database will be accessible as a relational database-as-a-service on the Aliyun cloud computing platform. Aliyun offers a full suite of enterprise applications and, by partnering with EDB to add Postgres Plus, Aliyun customers can now enjoy a more diversified relational database suite.

In line with our forecast, most recent discussions with Chinese cloud service providers indicate that the cloud market is picking up. Demand is coming from all sizes of Chinese enterprises that intend to adopt cloud computing to secure fast provisioning to quickly respond to fluctuations in business needs. Some local cloud service providers, such as China Telecom and Aliyun, have stated achieving early business success.”

Frontier Communications Corporation, declared that it recently accomplished four separate sales with six New York counties for next-generation capable 9-1-1 communications systems. These sales are in addition to Frontier’s 9-1-1 state-of-the-art system sale to Monroe County and the City of Rochester, N.Y., in the second half of 2014.
The systems were sold to counties within and outside of Frontier’s traditional service footprint in New York, with some counties partnering on a joint purchase. The featured equipment in all sales is the Airbus DS VESTA 4 system, a state-of-the-art IP-based integrated communications system that provides full redundancy and allows call takers to set up in a mobile environment in the event of evacuation. The new systems also provide more detailed and comprehensive reporting, enabling users to better analyze call data. In addition, they are next-generation 9-1-1 ready and capable of transmitting text, data and video images to 9-1-1 centers.

York College in New York City and Santander Bank, N.A. declared a five-year philanthropic partnership for the Bank’s Santander Universities program to support the College’s Merit Scholarship Program. York College is part of The City University of New York (CUNY) system.

Santander will provide scholarships to incoming freshmen and transfer students with a CUNY Associates Degree to assist with their tuition and other educational expenses. They also receive funding to take part in study abroad opportunities. With support from Santander, more than a dozen students will be able to take part in the Merit Scholarship Program over the next five years.
