Sprint Corp, declared it will start a four-year commitment of offering free broadband connectivity to the Pomona, Calif., Unified School District to 300 students at the School of Extended Educational Options (SEEO). The high-speed LTE broadband service will assist students stay connected at-home through a Wi-Fi hotspot. The value of Sprint’s service during the term is estimated at $576,000.

“This partnership is a novel approach to ensuring that the learning that takes place in the classrooms continues at home by making technology and Internet accessible to our unconnected students,” said Pomona Unified School District Superintendent Richard Martinez, who has been recognized by the White House for being a trailblazer in the world of digital education. “I want to thank Sprint for partnering with Pomona Unified to assist us reach our aim of supporting student learning through innovative strategies.”

Last year, Sprint pledged to provide wireless broadband connectivity for 50,000 low-income K-12 students across the U.S. as part of the White House initiative, ConnectED – a public and private effort to get technology into classrooms and into the hands of teachers and students to assist bridge the “digital divide.” SEEO is one of the first schools to come online with Sprint.

SEEO, a charter school for seventh through twelfth-graders, is known for a demanding academic program that comprises language arts, math, science and history, world languages, and leadership. The majority of students do not have access to the Internet at home, thereby limiting student opportunities to complete homework assignments, research next-level learning, and apply for jobs. About 55 percent of the students qualify for free and reduced lunch and 25 percent of students are English learners.

“SEEO is extremely grateful for Sprint’s generosity and for this opportunity to give our students the digital access they desperately need,” said Tom Sweeney, SEEO principal. “These services provide our students an improved educational experience and a foundation for greater opportunities when they leave this school and pursue careers.”

Shares of Southwest Airlines Co (NYSE:LUV), inclined 0.50% to $38.30, during its last trading session.

Southwest Airlines Co, stated its August and year-to-date preliminary traffic statistics. The Company flew 10.3 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in August 2015, a 7.5 percent improvement from 9.6 billion RPMs flown in August 2014. Available seat miles (ASMs) raised 7.6 percent to 12.1 billion in August 2015, contrast with the August 2014 level of 11.3 billion. The August 2015 load factor was 85.4 percent, contrast with 85.5 percent in August 2014. Based on results thus far in third quarter 2015 and current trends, the Company continues to estimate its third quarter 2015 operating revenue per ASM (RASM) will decrease about 1.0 percent, contrast with third quarter 2014.

For the first eight months of 2015, the Company flew 78.6 billion RPMs, contrast with 73.0 billion RPMs flown for the same period in 2014, an improvement of 7.6 percent. Year-to-date ASMs raised 6.7 percent to a level of 94.0 billion, contrast with 88.1 billion for the same period in 2014. The year-to-date load factor was 83.6 percent, contrast with 82.9 percent for the same period in 2014.

Southwest Airlines Co. operates passenger airlines that provide planned air transportation services in the United States and near-international markets. As of December 31, 2014, it operated 665 Boeing 737 aircraft; and had 12 Boeing 717 aircraft. The company served 93 destinations in 40 states, the District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, in addition to 5 near-international countries, counting Mexico, Jamaica, The Bahamas, Aruba, and the Dominican Republic.
