In a statement, Coritiba added: “We reiterate our deep respect for the Algerian state, its people and its history… We sincerely apologize to them.”
The joy of Slimani’s move to play in Brazil last Sunday, a precedent in the history of Algerian football, was broken by the publication of this map, from which several regions of Algeria were cut.

Coritiba represents the first club outside of Algeria and Europe in Soleimani’s career, noting that the latter had an outstanding professional career as he previously played for major European clubs such as Sporting Lisbon from Portugal, Leicester City and Newcastle United from England. Monaco of France and Anderlecht of Belgium.
Soleimani is at the top of Algeria’s historical goalscoring list with 41 goals and was part of the green team that won the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
