Banco Santander SA received envelopes with white powder of unknown origin that were addressed to members of its administration team, prompting the lender to activate the security protocol at its Madrid headquarters. According to Bloomberg

The company called the Spanish Civil Guard and the powder has been sent for lab analysis and identification, Banco Santander said in an e-mailed statement. Initial results point to “a false alarm,” the Civil Guard said later via Twitter.

The bank said 12 employees are receiving medical monitoring but are not showing symptoms. Apart from the area where the envelopes were received, the bank’s central services are operating normally, Banco Santander said. Bloomberg Report
