Pre-Market Stocks Roundup: Yahoo, (NASDAQ:YHOO), Atmel Corporation, (NASDAQ:ATML), Cadence Design Systems, (NASDAQ:CDNS)

On Thursday, Shares of Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO), lost -2.67% to $40.94, after analysts at Capstone said the spin-off of Alibaba Group Holding (BABA) is unlikely to be approved.

Analysts at the firm believe that the Internal Revenue Service, together with the Treasury Department, will not approve the projected tax-free spin-off of the company’s stake in the Chinese ecommerce retailer.

Capstone added that the tax-free spinoff is already priced into shares.

The unfavorable change in the tax code could hurt the stock. The firm says it could result in more than an $11 per Yahoo share for tax expense on the spin-off transaction.

Yahoo! Inc. provides search and display advertising services on Yahoo properties and associate sites worldwide. The company offers Yahoo Search that serves as a starting point to navigate the Internet and discover information; and Yahoo Answers, which enables users to seek, discover, and share knowledge and opinions across mobile phones, tablets, and desktops.

Shares of Atmel Corporation (NASDAQ:ATML), inclined 0.41% to $9.88, during its last trading session.

Atmel Corporation, expanded its industry-leading maXTouch U series of touchscreen controllers, providing the perfect blend of performance, power and size. The new devices enable virtually any touchscreen from 1.2″ to 10.1″ to deliver superior touch performance and ultra-low power in various form factors.

The six new devices expand the maXTouch U series with the industry’s best touch performance and lowest power leveraging its proprietary picoPower technology. Designers can now build innovative thin and flexible touchscreen designs using single layer, on-cell and hybrid in-cell touchscreens with intelligent wake-up gestures and buttons. Atmel is the only supplier to provide a single platform using the company’s latest touch technology to support touchscreens for applications ranging from wearables to entry-level smartphones, super phones and tablets on a full range of stack-ups counting on-cell and hybrid in-cell.

With the proliferation of touchscreens over the last 5 years, there has been a continued need to develop touchscreens with extremely high touch performance, ultra-low power and more sophisticated industrial designs with thinner screens. Furthermore, the anticipated growth of the wearables market has created a demand for extremely small touchscreen controllers with ultra-low power consumption in tiny packaging. Atmel addresses this demand with devices in its new maXTouch U series packaged in an ultra-tiny 2.5mm x 2.6mm Wafer-Level Chip Scale Package (WLCSP).

Atmel Corporation designs, develops, manufactures, and sells semiconductor integrated circuit products primarily in the United States, Asia, Europe, South Africa, and Central and South America. It operates in four segments: Microcontroller, Nonvolatile Memory, Automotive, and Multi-Market and Other.

Finally, Cadence Design Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:CDNS), ended its last trade with -0.45% loss, and closed at $19.75.

Cadence Design Systems, declared that it is collaborating with TSMC on the development of an Internet of Things (IoT) intellectual property (IP) subsystem demonstration platform for TSMC’s ultra-low power (ULP) process. Targeting wearable, home automation, always-on and industrial control applications, this IP subsystem, with the support of the Cadence® suite of digital and custom/analog tools, provides the opportunity to simplify IoT designs and accelerate the time to market for mutual customers.

Initially targeting the TSMC 55ULP process, the flexible Cadence IoT IP subsystem comprises the Cadence Tensilica® Fusion digital signal processor (DSP), analog interfaces, peripheral and sensor interfaces. The flexibility of the subsystem will also allow users the option to select an applications processor if needed for their design. This Cadence IoT IP subsystem can also be implemented in 40ULP and 28ULP as additional performance is needed for more compute intensive applications in the future. Many of the 200+ Cadence Tensilica processor licensees are already designing and producing SoCs and end products in IoT applications; such products comprise WiFi/IoT connectivity chips, motion plus voice sensor fusion devices, and wearables counting smart watches. Some of these next generation devices may be implemented in TSMC 55ULP over the next twelve months as the IP enablement gets more mature.

Cadence’s Fusion DSP comprises configurable options for security algorithm acceleration, wireless communications protocol processing, and ultra-low power voice trigger. The Fusion DSP comprises configurable I/O interfaces that allow direct connection to sensor interfaces and I2C and I2S serial interface controllers. The Fusion DSP, counting TSMC reference flow scripts and companion software development tools, is accessible now.

Cadence Design Systems, Inc. develops, sells, leases, and licenses electronic design automation (EDA) software, emulation and prototyping hardware, verification intellectual property (VIP), and design intellectual property (design IP) for semiconductor and electronics systems industries worldwide.
