Preceding to joining American in 1996, Ris was executive vice president for the Wexler Group, a Washington, D.C.-based government relations firm, where he represented American as outside counsel for 13 years. He also served as a trial attorney for the United States Civil Aeronautics Board and was designated counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation and its Aviation Subcommittee. In 1978, he was the principal Senate legal counsel for the drafting of the airline deregulation legislation.

American Airlines Group Inc., through its auxiliaries, operates in the airline industry. As of December 31, 2014, the company operated 983 mainline jets, in addition to 566 regional aircrafts through regional airline auxiliaries and third-party regional carriers. JetBlue Airways Corporation, declared plans to add a new destination to its expanding Latin America and Caribbean network. The airline intends to launch service to Quito, Ecuador’s Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO) with once daily service from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), subject to approval of government operating authority.

The new route is predictable to launch in the first quarter of 2016. Flights will be accessible for sale pending government approval.
