Morgan Asset Administration released its latest Investment Insights paper identifying current themes driving investment decisions for endowments and foundations in recently’s volatile economic environment. Authored by Monica Issar, Global Head, J.P. Morgan Asset Administration Endowments & Foundations Group, and Anthony Werley, Chief Strategist, J.P. Morgan Asset Administration Endowments & Foundations Group, the paper – “Seeking direction in a volatile market” – highlights prevalent trends in nonprofit investment administration, in addition to areas of opportunity for investors. Key findings comprise:

  • In a lower-return public equity environment, investors will need to shift from beta-oriented strategies to more intelligently sourced alpha in the public and private markets.
  • Nonprofit organizations are managing multiple objectives in the face of industry pressures. Many nonprofits are increasingly focused on risk – counting pension liabilities, meeting target returns and managing short-term liquidity – with limited resources and are turning to planned partners to assist them navigate these challenges.
  • Institutions are actively restructuring their risk administration, specifically in fixed income, toward more return-oriented strategies.

Shares of Oasis Petroleum Inc. (NYSE:OAS), inclined 2.85% to $8.30, during its last trading session, hitting its lowest level, despite Crude oil closed slightly lower Wednesday as economic woes outweighed an unpredictable drop in U.S. oil storage.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration said that the amount of oil in U.S. tanks fell by 5.5 million barrels last week. The strong decline in inventories surprised traders, who had been expecting a build of about 1 million barrels, according to an average of 11 estimates compiled by Bloomberg.

Oasis Petroleum Inc., an independent exploration and production company, focuses on the acquisition and development of unconventional oil and natural gas resources in the North Dakota and Montana regions of the Williston Basin.

Finally, Baidu, Inc. (NASDAQ:BIDU), ended its last trade with 3.95% gain, and closed at $142.40.

ChinaNet Online Holdings, Inc. (CNET) declared it has launched a new service, “The GOOD Business of China”, together with Baidu and its Tieba division, the largest forum posting platform in China owned by Baidu, Inc. (BIDU), to connect domestic and global businesses with potential and qualified entrepreneurs in China.

Within a week after launch in early August, forty-five businesses had been carefully selected by ChinaNet out of thousands of domestic and global franchising brands, which cater to Chinese consumer growing demands for food, entertainment and services, with over 100 businesses waiting to be added. These selected businesses have collectively pledged up to RMB100 million (US$16 million) funding support to qualified entrepreneurs via fee rebates and O20 marketing budgets through Baidu Direct.

Baidu, Inc. provides Internet search services in China and internationally. It offers Chinese language search platform on its Baidu.com Website that enables users to find relevant information online, counting Web pages, news, images, documents, and multimedia files through links offered on its Website; and international products and services to users in other countries.
