On Wednesday, Shares of Alibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE:BABA), gained 3.66% to $82.35.

Cainiao Logistics, the logistics associate of Alibaba Group Holding Limited (BABA), has unveiled special logistics arrangements made for this year’s 11.11 Global Shopping Festival.

Cainiao operates an industry-leading proprietary logistics information platform providing both buyers and sellers with real-time information access. The information assists facilitate the efficient delivery of goods ordered on Alibaba’s marketplaces. During this year’s 11.11 online sale event, Cainiao estimates more than 1.7 million delivery personnel, 400,000 vehicles, 5,000 warehouses and 200 airplanes will be deployed by its logistics partners to handle deliveries on the busiest day on the shopping calendar.

This year’s 11.11 festival is shaping up to be the most international ever with more than 5,000 international brands from 25 countries joining the sale, selling directly to consumers in more than 200 countries and regions through Alibaba’s China and international marketplaces. To facilitate international deliveries, Cainiao has launched Hassle-free Logistics Service enlisting the support of 49 cross-border delivery partners who have set up 16 dedicated cross-border delivery routes and 74 warehouses that can support 4 million package deliveries per day. Cainiao has also made arrangements for faster customs clearance for cross-border packages via bonded warehouses while integrating logistics data sharing with local customs in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Ningbo and Guangzhou.

In order to enable the logistics partners to achieve higher efficiency and better logistics services, Cainiao has been developing and expanding logistics applications leveraging the company’s big-data technology and algorithm capabilities. These applications comprise an e-Waybill system that shares shipping information among delivery firms, customers and merchants; a digitized parcel sorting solution, which assists logistics workers to sort packages to optimal delivery routes, reducing errors and enhancing efficiency; and parcel forecasting applications to assist delivery firms to beef up its facilities ahead of time.

Shares of Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:AKAM), declined -16.73% to $62.91, during its last trading session.

Akamai Technologies, declared its intent to join the Internet2 NET+ initiative. Akamai’s Cloud Security Solutions, a comprehensive suite of security solutions counting DDoS mitigation, threat analysis, and dedicated site defense, has entered the NET+ Evaluation stage. NET+ streamlines the process and assists make it more affordable for colleges and universities to purchase cloud-based technology solutions. Akamai is at EDUCAUSE this week discussing how it can assist higher education institutions protect their online assets from DDoS and other web application threats.

“Universities and other higher education institutions have been surprised to become targets for attacks, but - in today’s environment - the threat is as real for them as it is for any other organization on the web,” said Tom Ruff, Akamai’s VP of public sector. “A NET+ offering would make the same technology that large enterprises use to protect their websites and applications everyday available to higher education institutions in a way that’s easy to afford and implement.”

DDoS attacks are on the rise and are regularly launched on higher education institutions to expose student records and hold information hostage. DDoS attacks have become a costly challenge for colleges and universities, threatening both finances and reputations. Akamai provides a technology solution designed to absorb these attacks at scale, regardless of the service providers used.
