Why These Stocks Hot? Facebook, (NASDAQ:FB), Progressive, (NYSE:PGR), Oncothyreon, (NASDAQ:ONTY), FirstEnergy, (NYSE:FE)

On Friday, Shares of Facebook, Inc. (NASDAQ:FB), lost -1.17% to $80.42, following reports that Belgian regulators have accused the social media company of “trampling” over European privacy laws by tracking people online without their consent and avoiding questions from national regulators.

Belgian watchdog the Privacy Protection Commission (CPBL) is working with its German, French, Spanish, and Dutch counterparts and is urging Internet users to install privacy software in order to protect themselves from Facebook’s tracking systems even if they don’t have a Facebook account, Reuters reports.

Facebook, Inc. operates as a social networking company worldwide. It provides a set of development tools and application programming interfaces that enable developers to integrate with Facebook to create mobile and Web applications.

Shares of Progressive Corp. (NYSE:PGR), declined -0.58% to $27.23, during its last trading session.

The Progressive’s 2014 Year in Claims Report found that the top auto claim for the year was rear-ending, alerting drivers to think twice before following other cars too closely. When examining the most cautious drivers as compared to the riskiest, Progressive finds that the safest drivers allow an average of 39 percent more time and 32 percent more distance, respectively, to stop.

The Lead Foot Report also found some interesting comparisons in relation to gender, age and geographical location:

  • When comparing men and women’s average braking habits, the safest male drivers have 77 percent less hard brakes than the most aggressive female drivers.
  • While many assume that all teen drivers fall within the riskiest driver category, in actuality the safest quarter of 16 year-olds have fewer hard brakes than the average driver in every age decade.
  • The report also examines median speeds by drivers in each state. Alabama and Mississippi drivers clock the highest median speed in a one-day period, coming in at 40 MPH, meaning half of all driving in these states is faster than 40 mph and half is slower. Meanwhile, the slowest median speed can be found in Washington, D.C. at 24 MPH.

The Progressive Corporation, an insurance holding company, provides personal and commercial property-casualty insurance, and other specialty property-casualty insurance and related services primarily in the United States.

Finally, FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE:FE), ended its last trade with 0.83% gain, and closed at $35.24.

FirstEnergy, has nearly accomplished construction of a new transmission substation in Elk County, Pa., that will comprise voltage-regulating equipment designed to reinforce the electric system and enhance service reliability for West Penn Power and Pennsylvania Electric Company (Penelec) utility customers.

The $48 million project comprises the installation of specialized voltage-regulating equipment that is designed to respond to real-time electrical conditions, boosting or reducing voltage as needed to maintain consistent levels on the regional transmission network. The substation work also comprises installing capacitor banks, circuit breakers, transformers, communications equipment and a modular control building. About $33 million will be spent in 2015 on the project, which also comprises looping two existing transmission lines into the new substation for improved system reliability and operational flexibility.

Located in Fox Township near St. Marys, the substation is predictable to be accomplished and energized by early June. The project will benefit more than 95,000 FirstEnergy utility customers, counting West Penn Power customers in Elk, Centre and Potter counties, and Penelec customers in Clearfield, Jefferson, Forest, Warren, McKean and Potter counties.

The project is part of FirstEnergy’s plans to invest $205 million in 2015 in West Penn Power’s area to assist enhance service reliability. More than $62 million of the total will be spent on transmission-related projects owned by the Trans-Allegheny Interstate Line Company (TrAILCo), a FirstEnergy transmission company.
