After more than 20 years, Egypt managed to fulfill its dream of cultivating and developing desert lands, as it was able to cultivate the lands of Toshka and East Ovainat.
Nader Nureddin, adviser to former Egyptian Minister of Supply, said that the East Al Awainat project is located in the extreme southwest of the Western Desert on the Egyptian-Libyan border and is characterized by moderate heat, as it is located in the bosom of Jabal al Awainat, one of the highest mountains in Africa. , which makes it a place with temperate air.
He continued: “It is also characterized by having a good supply of high quality groundwater, sufficient to irrigate the 200,000 acres that is the project area for a period of 200 years, and therefore does not require the provision of water resources, whether it be Nile water or water for sewage treatment.”
Nur El-Din pointed out that he started developing the project more than 20 years ago, and specially built an airport for it to export its products from vegetables and fruits to the countries of the world, but its remoteness from urbanization was an obstacle to attracting capital investment, and those processed in agriculture farming areas did not exceed 45,000 acres until farming was allotted. oil, which Egypt imports entirely, along with areas for planting potatoes that grow in sandy lands, with the opening of a factory for the production of pre-processed potatoes for export and markets. due to the difficulty of marketing potato fruits in Egyptian cities due to the distance from them, and due to the fact that sales in supermarkets worldwide and locally consist of 80% of them in the form of fresh or pre-cooked foods .
And he continued: “With the revival of the Toshka project after a break of about 20 years, the National Service Agency and some investors cultivated about 40,000 acres of date palms and received a Guinness World Record certificate as the largest date farm in the world, along with about 150,000 acres of wheat from total sown area of 400,000”. a harvest of about 900 thousand tons, or almost a million tons of imports.”
Nour El-Din said the Egyptian president was keen to take part in the East Al Awaynat wheat and potato harvest and the opening of a prepared potato packing plant due to the importance of the East Al Awainat and Toshka projects in supporting Egypt. food security, reducing food imports and encouraging increased exports of precooked vegetables to neighboring countries.
