House Economics Committee member Hassan Ammar called on the government to adjust the annual cost of living for foreigners to at least $500 a year.
The member of the House of Representatives explained in his proposal that the number of refugees and residents of Egypt exceeds 9 million, especially Syrians, Iraqis, Yemenis, Sudanese and Palestinians.
He pointed out that the state levies very small fees in Egyptian pounds, which is completely incommensurable with the size of these numbers, enjoying all the privileges of the Egyptian people in respect of subsidies for fuel, electricity, roads and water, and they bear outside trade, industry and earnings.
Representative Hassan Ammar said neighboring countries such as the UAE and Turkey receive at least $1,000 per capita each year.
The member of the House of Representatives called for an adjustment of the annual cost of living for foreigners to at least $500 a year, which would help the state save at least $7 billion a year and be part of the solution to the dollar crisis.
Recently, Social Solidarity Minister Nevin Al-Kabbaj reported that the number of refugees in Egypt has now reached 8 million, noting that this number is putting pressure on the supply of food and services, explaining that the government is doing its best in this regard.
During the meeting of the Committee of Social Solidarity in the House of Representatives, she emphasized that global economic conditions and challenges cast a shadow on Egypt, as well as regional conditions, what is happening in neighboring countries, and what happened recently in brotherly Sudan.
