(AAPL), (GOOG), (GOOGL) NEWS Update: Apple Inc. (AAPL), Google Inc (GOOGL), Oracle Corporation (ORCL)

Oracle Corp (ORCL.N) won a major legal victory on Monday in a closely watched copyright case involving the company’s Java programming language as the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear Google Inc’s (GOOGL.O) appeal. Reuters

The decision upholds a ruling that allows Oracle to seek licensing fees for the use of some of the Java language. Google had said it should be able to use Java without paying a fee.

“We will continue to defend the interoperability that has fostered innovation and competition in the software industry,” Google said in a statement on Monday. Reuters

Oracle, however, has said effective copyright protection is the key to software development. General Counsel Dorian Daley said on Monday that the Supreme Court decision was a “win for innovation.” Reuters

Google‘s Android operating system is the world’s best-selling smartphone platform. Oracle sued Google in 2010 and is seeking roughly $1 billion on its copyright claims.

Google (GOOG) launched its revamped Android Pay mobile payment service at its I/O conference a few weeks back. What was surprising was that Google declared that it won’t charge any fees to bank issuers for mobile transactions through Android Pay. This is unlike Apple Inc. (AAPL), which charges 0.15% of the value of each credit card transaction to banks. Market Realist

The Apple Inc. (AAPL) Watch was predictable to be a disaster for companies like Fitbit. It hasn’t been. While Fitbit’s sales dipped as anticipation for Apple’s smartwatch grew, the company has bounced back this spring and appears to be doing just fine, according to data offered exclusively to Bloomberg by Slice Intelligence. After Apple’s monster first week, Fitbit products have actually outsold Apple Watches, according to Slice. Bloomberg

Apple Inc. designs, manufactures, and markets mobile communication and media devices, personal computers, watches, and portable digital music players worldwide. The company also sells related software, services, accessories, networking solutions, and third-party digital content and applications. It offers iPhone, a line of smartphones that comprise a phone, music player, and Internet device; iPad, a line of multi-purpose tablets; Mac, a line of desktop and portable personal computers; iPod, a line of portable digital music and media players, such as iPod touch, iPod nano, and iPod shuffle; and Apple Watches, personal electronic devices that combine watch technology with an iOS-based user interface.
