On Friday, Shares of Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), lost -1.66% to $46.10.
To meet increasing data center demands, Verizon will start using Mesosphere’s Datacenter Operating System (DCOS) later this year to significantly improve automation, scalability and efficiency when deploying applications, services and big data infrastructure.
Mesosphere DCOS, which is based on the open source cluster manager Apache Mesos, will allow Verizon to accelerate deployment of new products and services for a wide range of products and services counting connected devices and machines, video services, Internet services, storage and mobile applications, in addition to big data and analytics.
“Verizon is committed to unleashing the full potential of open source, data center cluster technology and cloud applications for the highest possible customer experience,” said Kumar Vishwanathan, vice president and chief technologist for Verizon Labs. “Mesosphere DCOS gives Verizon the foundation to create far-reaching benefits by increasing our ability to quickly launch new products and services while reducing the IT requirements in our data centers.”

Shares of BB&T Corporation (NYSE:BBT), inclined 2.57% to $37.60, during its last trading session.
Winston-Salem, N.C.-based BB&T (NYSE: BBT) brought in Mark Irwin as market president of Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati, and Brian Brockhoff as head of commercial real estate lending in Ohio and Kentucky. It added both after it wrapped up the acquisition of Crestview Hills-based Bank of Kentucky Financial Corp. in June.
BB&T hadn’t operated in the Greater Cincinnati market before the deal, but it made a splash when it bought Northern Kentucky’s biggest bank on June 19 for $394 million. BB&T now has 31 branches in Northern Kentucky and one in downtown Cincinnati.
“The aim is to have between seven and 10 branches in Cincinnati in the next 12 to 15 months,” Brockhoff said.
Irwin is heading up a lot of the efforts to get Bank of Kentucky customers converted to BB&T. He’s running the local market and leading the commercial banking team. Hawking’s role hasn’t changed. BB&T has a president focused on each market within that region. That means it could have a Cincinnati market president once it expands there.
BB&T Corporation operates as a financial holding company that provides various banking and trust services for retail and commercial clients. It operates in six segments: Community Banking, Residential Mortgage Banking, Dealer Financial Services, Specialized Lending, Insurance Services, and Financial Services.
