Active Stocks in Focus: Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS), BioDelivery Sciences International, Inc. (NASDAQ:BDSI), Cree, Inc. (NASDAQ:CREE), CarMax, Inc (NYSE:KMX)

On Friday, Shares of Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS), gained 0.15% to $13.26.

Barnes & Noble, declared a new partnership with Maker Media, publisher of Make: magazine and producer of Maker Faire, to launch the first-ever Mini Maker Faire in stores nationwide. Barnes & Noble and Maker Media are “Calling All Makers” to take part at their local Barnes & Noble store the weekend of November 6-8 to share their inventions, ideas and more.

A Maker Faire is a community-based learning event that inspires everyone to become a Maker and connect with people and projects in their local community. These events are for people of all ages and backgrounds who have a desire to create, learn and share, and who bring a DIY mindset to technology.

Burwell, declared important new steps to improvement access to treatments for opioid dependence and prevention of opioid overdose. A component of the planned changes comprises a move to expand access to medication assisted treatment (MAT) by revising the regulations that limit the prescribing of buprenorphine to treat opioid dependence.

A recent report from HHS indicated that 2.5 million people in the U.S. presently need treatment for opioid dependence; however, fewer than 1 million are receiving it. Under current regulations, physicians certified can prescribe buprenorphine treatment for opioid dependence for up to 30 patients initially and then after one year can request authorization to prescribe up to a maximum of 100 patients. As a result, access to care is limited and physicians are often forced to turn away patients seeking care.

At the end of Friday’s trade, Shares of Cree, Inc. (NASDAQ:CREE), lost -2.72% to $25.41.

CarMax, declared a new partnership with the National Football League’s reigning Super Bowl champion New England Patriots. As part of the multi-year sponsorship agreement, CarMax is now the official used car retailer of the team and will be visible to fans and consumers through extensive branding within Gillette Stadium and the surrounding footprint, in addition to media, digital and social elements throughout the 2015 season. The company will also be honoring local community heroes and donating $80,000 to area nonprofits through a consumer contest called The Bright Side of Game Day.

At Gillette Stadium, CarMax will be the first brand to be showcased on the stadium’s iconic bridge and lighthouse. The bridge was recently expanded to four times its previous size to give fans plenty of room to hang out and watch the action while improving the concourse’s foot traffic on game days.
