Georgia Power is celebrating Veterans Day by recognizing the nearly 1 in 10 employees companywide who have served in the U.S. military. On Wednesday, Georgia Power leadership, joined by Georgia state senator and U.S. Army veteran Hunter Hill, hosted a special event at the company’s Atlanta headquarters to thank the company’s veterans for their service and recognize the value they bring to the company and its customers every day.

“We are committed to hiring qualified veterans into our workforce,” said Sloane Evans, vice president of human resources for Georgia Power. “Partnerships with Georgia military bases, intentional on-post recruiting and the delivery of an apprentice training program are assisting us connect with veterans with specialized skillsets whose core values also complement the safety culture and 24-hour-a-day nature of our business.”

Starbucks Corporation, declared a noteworthy hiring milestone and investments to further bridge the gap between the military and civilians since only 12 percent of the U.S. public understands the service and sacrifice of the one percent who have served.1 The company has hired more than 5,500 veterans and military spouses, surpassing the halfway mark to reaching its commitment made in 2013 to hire 10,000 by 2018. Additionally, to better address the needs of partners (employees) who are active duty or reservists in the U.S. Armed Forces or National Guard, Starbucks declared a new pay-for-service-benefit, which will cover up to 80 hours of pay each year for service obligations.

As a company that already offers a tuition-free education to eligible U.S. partners through the Starbucks College Achievement Plan, the company also shared recently that it is providing partners who are current or former members of the U.S. Armed Forces with an additional tuition-free education to extend to a spouse or child. More than 4,000 partners already take advantage of this education benefit in partnership with Arizona State University (ASU) to earn a bachelor’s degree with 100 percent tuition coverage. ASU, with nearly 4,200 veterans and 1,000 military family members enrolled at the university, also demonstrates a strong commitment to veterans and military families through scholarships and the Pat Tillman Veterans Center and has been named one of the nation’s “Best for Vets” colleges by the Military Times.

Wynn Las Vegas, declared the newest concept in nightlife, Intrigue, last night during a reveal at Tryst Nightclub’s “Final Affair” industry party. Intrigue will open in the space presently occupied by Tryst on Apr. 28, 2016, which marks Wynn Las Vegas’ 11th anniversary. Tryst closes on Saturday, Nov. 7, after a successful 10-year run.

“The current market is dominated by the DJ phenomenon,” said Sean Christie, VP of operations at Wynn Las Vegas. “While the current nightlife options at Wynn continue to enjoy the success of EDM, there is an audience who wants an alternative nightlife experience. Intrigue will feature state-of-the-art lighting and sound designed by award-winning John Lyons Systems throughout the spectacular 14,000-square-foot venue, which will accommodate up to 1,200 patrons. Guests will enjoy contemporary party music that will cross over many different genres creating a high-energy dancing environment. A new glass enclosed patio will allow year-round views to the venue’s dramatic waterfall and spectacular pyrotechnics show. Additionally, a 1,200-square-foot private club within the club will be a social media free zone, allowing guests the ultimate in privacy.
