Turkish media are reporting that Ankara is building a naval base in the port of Homs, east of the Libyan capital Tripoli, after taking a long-term lease on it.
The Turkish authorities have not yet commented on these reports.
Earlier, Turkish media reported that the Ministry of Defense leased the port of Al-Khums, located on the Mediterranean coast, for a period of 99 years.
The Al-Khobar 7 portal stated that Turkey seeks through this base to strengthen its influence in the eastern Mediterranean, control Turkish territorial waters and ensure the safety of merchant ships.
According to media reports, Turkey will deploy improvised drones and air defense systems at the base being created.
In the same context, the Turkish portal Sanayi ve Savunma reported that the port lease agreement would be signed during the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Tripoli, without naming the date of the visit.
