Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto said that the dissolution of the OSCE is possible.
This is stated in an interview with YLE Radio, where he continued that the reason for this is the unwillingness of Russia and Belarus to agree to Estonia’s chairmanship of this organization in 2024.
Haavisto stressed that if there is no president of the organization in 2024 and there is no consensus on this issue, next year will be the year of the collapse of the OSCE.
Also in the text published on the website of the TV and radio corporation, it was said: “The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) has been in crisis for 6 months. The reason for the conflict is the unwillingness of Russia and Belarus to agree to the chairmanship of Estonia in the organization in 2024.”
According to the rules of the organization, a rotating chair must be approved by all 57 member states. Russia and Belarus do not agree with the candidacy of Estonia, and Estonia does not want to abandon its candidacy, and there are no official statements from Moscow or Minsk on this issue yet.
