Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheith said a ceasefire in Khartoum could take place within a week or two.
He added today, Tuesday, that the losses from the conflict in Sudan are great for Sudanese society, indicating that it is dangerous for the region surrounding Sudan.
Efforts for a permanent truce
So far, the two warring parties have agreed on 6 truces through international and regional mediation, but all of them have been violated and included clashes and violations of the ceasefire. So far, both sides have taken responsibility.
At the same time, negotiations between the two delegations from the army and operational support are expected to begin in the coming hours with the aim of achieving a permanent ceasefire, as previously confirmed by UN envoy Volker Peretz in Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadas.

However, he made it clear that these negotiations are technical, not political, and their goal is to agree between the two sides on a permanent truce.
Thousands of displaced people
Since the outbreak of hostilities between the country’s two largest armed forces on 15 April, thousands of Sudanese have fled to neighboring countries, with more than 500 people killed and 5,000 injured in clashes.
Most of the hospitals in Khartoum also shut down, and the health sector was hit hard. At that time, the country witnessed a large wave of evacuations of foreign nationals by many Western and Arab countries.
