German Foreign Minister Analina Berbock said that Beijing is trying to change the “current rules” in the Asia-Pacific region, so the West needs to lend a helping hand to its partners in the region.

The Welt newspaper quoted Burbock as saying during the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting in Japan: “Many of our partners in Asia and the Pacific are facing China’s growing desire to change the general rules in the region and replace them with its own rules, and Beijing is reaffirming its ambition, saying that the region lacks rules”, despite the ratification of treaties concluded in the region.

In support of her words, Beerbock cited “the shelling of a Philippine patrol boat with lasers in February last year and the creation by China of a group of artificial islands in the region.”

She added: “Our partners must count on us, and this is especially true of the Indo-Pacific region, which is one of the most important regions in which the future broad lines of the international order in the twenty-first century will be determined. .”
