BMW Launches Electric Concept Car, “Vision Neue Klasse”

German automaker BMW has unveiled its highly anticipated electric concept car, the “Vision Neue Klasse,” heralding a new era for the company.

The innovative design of the Vision Neue Klasse will serve as the foundation for BMW’s upcoming generation of electric vehicles. The initial electric vehicles based on this new architecture, known as the Neue Klasse, are scheduled to begin production in 2025.

This new lineup of electric vehicles will feature BMW’s sixth generation of battery cells, which promise to enhance both the charging speed and range of the Neue Klasse platform by up to 30%. As a result, BMW expects a 25% increase in overall vehicle efficiency.

“With the BMW Vision Neue Klasse, we are leveraging all of BMW’s innovative capabilities in the electric and digital realms, while also ensuring the car is prepared for the circular economy,” stated BMW CEO Oliver Zipse during an interview with WS News Publishers’s Arabile Gumede.

“In just two years, these cars will hit the roads, leading BMW into a new era of innovation and sustainability. That’s what we aim to showcase at the IAA,” Zipse added.

The Vision Neue Klasse will make its public debut at the upcoming IAA motor show in Munich, which serves as BMW’s headquarters. The IAA show is one of the largest mobility trade fairs worldwide.

“We firmly believe that electromobility will be the automotive industry’s largest growth segment, and we strive to be at the forefront,” Zipse emphasized.

Beyond the Vision Neue Klasse, BMW’s CEO projected that battery electric vehicles will account for 15% of the company’s global sales by the end of 2023, with further growth anticipated in the following years.

Frank Weber, a member of BMW’s Board of Management responsible for development, described the Neue Klasse range as a “significant technological leap” for the automaker.

Unfazed by Chinese EV Giants

In early August, BMW acknowledged ongoing challenges stemming from supply chain issues and persistent high inflation. However, the company raised its annual outlook for the margin on earnings before interest and taxes in the automotive segment.

BMW’s stock has seen a 13% increase year-to-date.

When asked about the presence of Chinese electric vehicle giants at the Munich motor show and potential competition impacting BMW’s business, Zipse confidently stated, “No, we are not afraid at all.”

“The fact that global players like the Chinese, who represent the largest car market in the world, come to Munich to showcase their offerings is a testament to our appeal. This show is more than just automobiles; it is a tech and innovation showcase,” Zipse explained.

“I am thrilled to have everyone here, including the Americans, Europeans, and now the Chinese. Healthy competition drives excitement and progress. It’s fantastic,” he concluded.
