Aging and Health: The Power of CoQ10
Aging is an inevitable part of our lives, however, depending on our lifestyle habits, there are several factors that can contribute to how quickly we age and how long we stay fit and active.
An expert suggested that taking certain supplements can improve our health and vitality.
Tina Lund Kolk, Nutrition Consultant and Revive Active Ambassador, recommends consuming CoQ10, better known as CoQ10, either through food or supplements.
Coenzyme Q-10 or coenzyme Q is a vitamin-like substance that acts on the body in a manner similar to that of vitamin E and may even be a more powerful antioxidant.
Speaking to the British newspaper The Express, Kolk said: “Let me introduce you to CoQ10, a super-ingredient that can do wonders for your health and vitality. Coenzyme Q10 is naturally present in our bodies, but you can also find it in some. It acts as a cellular energy source, providing energy to our cells and also protects against free radical damage due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.”
Anti-aging properties
“CoQ10 is known for its cellular protection and antioxidant power,” explained Tina. “Aging, drugs such as statins, genetic factors, and age-related diseases can lead to lower CoQ10 levels, exacerbating oxidative stress and inflammation.”
She added that CoQ10 makes us feel more energetic. It is said to be “like a turbocharger for cells, as it plays a critical role in the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is the main source of energy for cells.”
She continued: “Studies have shown a beneficial effect of CoQ10 supplementation on fatigue among healthy people, as well as those who suffer from fibromyalgia (fibromyalgia) and statin-related fatigue. It’s like turning on your body’s batteries and giving yourself an energy boost.”
What do the studies say?

“CoQ10 deficiency may be the result of genetic failure or aging,” Kolk said. However, more research is needed on this topic.

These benefits depend on CoQ10 bioavailability and tissue absorption, and also on CoQ10 bioavailability and tissue absorption, hence liver and adipose tissue.” And circulating cells respond well to CoQ10 supplementation.”
However, more research is needed to understand the mechanisms of CoQ10 therapy in aging-associated diseases, especially in the context of the multiple biological functions of CoQ, which is an important molecule in mammalian cells.
Where can you find CoQ10?
Tina recommended good food sources like oily fish, organ meats, nuts, and spinach as a way to boost your CoQ10 levels.
She warned: “Now that we’re discussing dietary sources of CoQ10, it’s good to know that the cooking process can affect its content in foods. Steaming and baking are two of the best preservation methods over frying. Eating foods rich in CoQ10, with a little healthy fat can improve its absorption.” So try serving it sprinkled with pine nuts and extra virgin olive oil.”
She recommends supplementing with CoQ10 if you can’t get enough through your diet.
