Brazil’s President Urges the Abolishment of US Dollar in Global Commerce

WhatsApp

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has again called for the adoption of an alternative currency to the dollar for financial transactions. Noting that this issue is being discussed within the BRICS group.

And the website of the Brazilian president published what he said during the inauguration ceremony of the BRICS Development Bank Dilma Rousseff: “Why can’t a bank like BRICS have a currency that could finance trade between Brazil and China, as well as between Brazil and other countries? BRICS countries? It’s not like that.” Simplicity, the reason is that the whole world depends on one currency.

In January, upon taking office as president, Lula da Silva proposed considering the adoption of a currency for business transactions within the MERCOSUR (South American market) and noted that such discussions were underway in the BRICS.

In the same context, Brazil and China announced in March the establishment of an information center. It is designed for financial settlements without the use of dollars, as well as lending in national currencies.

It should also be noted that this will facilitate trade operations and reduce their cost, help get rid of dependence on the dollar in bilateral relations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, during extensive talks with the Chinese leadership, held in the Russian capital, said that Moscow supports the use of the yuan in transactions between Russia and countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
