British Police Defend the Detention of 52 Individuals During the Crowning of Charles III

British police have announced that they have arrested 52 demonstrators during the coronation of King Charles III in London so as not to disturb the atmosphere of this historic event.

Today, Saturday, British security forces arrested dozens of environmental activists who planned to disrupt the royal motorcade, as well as at least 6 anti-monarchist activists, including the head of the Republic movement, Graham Smith, who organized a demonstration in Trafalgar Square.

The Metropolitan Police said it had arrested 52 people Saturday afternoon who were still in custody on charges of disorderly conduct, noting that it had “received information indicating that the demonstrators wanted to disrupt the coronation procession.”

“This included information indicating that people were trying to desecrate monuments with paint, breach barriers and obstruct the movement of officials,” Scotland Yard said.

This seems to point to the behavior of Just Stop the Oil, an environmental organization whose activists were arrested, but does not explicitly justify the arrest of anti-monarchists whose “Not Mine” signs were confiscated.
