Burkina24 reports that the Council of Ministers of Burkina Faso has approved a bill to send troops to Niger.
ANDThe newspaper reported: “The Council has approved a bill authorizing the deployment of Burkina Faso forces to the Republic of Niger. This decision is fully in line with our country’s strategic commitment.”
For his part, Kasoum Coulibaly, Minister of Defense of Burkina Faso, said that sending troops to Niger would strengthen the fight against terrorism, and that the security of Niger is part of the security of Burkina Faso.
At the end of July last year, the Nigerian army announced the isolation of President Mohamed Bazum, the closure of borders and the announcement of a curfew. And the commander of the presidential guard, General Abd ar-Rahman Chiani, was appointed to the post of head of the “National Council for the Defense of the Fatherland”, which was formed by the participants in the coup. Most Western leaders and the West African Economic Community (ECOWAS) condemned the coup. In early August, participants in an emergency meeting of the chiefs of the general staffs of the armed forces of the ECOWAS countries, held in Abuja (Nigeria), adopted a plan for military intervention in Niger.
