The Burnley club have rewarded their Belgian manager Vincent Kompany for his lead in a return to the English Premier League by extending his contract until 2028, according to what the club announced on Sunday.

Burnley said in a statement: “After winning the Championship (the second tier of the English Premier League) in his first season at Turf Moor (the stadium), the manager has signed a new five-year contract.”

The statement quoted the former Belgian international defender as saying: “I had good feelings for Burnley and Turf Moor from day one and so it seemed natural for me to sign for the next five years.”

After leaving the Premier League at the end of last season, Burnley shone in the second tier with 98 points from 45 stages (out of 46) to top the table, 10 points behind second-placed Sheffield United, who also returned to the Premier League. League.

Burnley included Kompany, a four-time Premier League champion, as a Manchester City player in 2022 after he was relegated after six seasons in the Premier League.

With their relegation, Burnley had to pay off most of their $78 million debt and sell a number of their important players.

But Kompany, 36, a former Anderlecht manager, has managed to build a good team of new faces by using his connections in Belgium and Manchester City to strengthen the Burnley team.
