A 17-year-old girl was killed and five people injured in a shooting early Saturday at a house party in Chico, California, according to local police.
Chico police chief Billy Aldridge said the cops were originally sent to a large party on Columbus Avenue, just blocks from UC Chico’s campus, after reports that one of the attendees fired multiple shots from a firearm.
He added that the police discovered that there was a fight at the party and the suspect was asked to leave before the police arrived. Aldridge added that two people were taken to hospital after reports of physical abuse.
At 3 am local time, the police were called to another party on Columbus Avenue, where a report was received that someone was brandishing a gun. There, police found a man who matched the description of the suspect who had shot in the previous incident and was arrested for possession and reckless use of a weapon.
Less than half an hour later, the police were called back to a party on Columbus Street, where it was revealed that six people had been shot and one of the victims had died.
Police said the victim was a 17-year-old girl and some of the victims were taken to hospital, noting that the investigation is still in its early stages.
Aldridge called the incident “isolated” and there was no “permanent threat” to public order.
