Call of Duty: Two Decades that Last!
Call of Duty is about to celebrate its 20th anniversary on October 29th. This iconic video game franchise has managed to endure thanks to a rotation system among Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer Games, along with competition from numerous studios such as Raven Software. Each year, fans eagerly await the release of new episodes, including the classic single player campaigns and intense multiplayer experiences. Additionally, the highly popular Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 offers a dynamic battle royale that regularly evolves to keep players engaged.
The reception of each installment may vary, but one undeniable fact is that Call of Duty is one of the highest-selling franchises, comparable to FIFA and EA FC. It has become a cash cow, to the point where regulators have raised concerns during Microsoft’s takeover of Activision Blizzard King.
Recognizing the demand for nostalgia, Activision released a remake of one of the most beloved episodes, Modern Warfare, in 2019. This was followed by Black Ops Cold War, Vanguard, and Modern Warfare II in subsequent years. The 2019 remake received critical acclaim and became the second best-selling Call of Duty game, with sales of 30 million copies, just behind the original Modern Warfare 3, which sold 30.5 million copies.
Modern Warfare 3: The Return of the Best-Selling Game in the Franchise
As the title suggests, the best-selling game in the Call of Duty franchise is set to make a comeback. Activision recently made this announcement official, although it wasn’t a surprise due to numerous leaks. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is coming on November 10, 2023, and will follow the footsteps of the first two remakes.
Despite expectations of solely focusing on next-generation consoles, the game will also be released for PC, PS5, Xbox Series, Xbox One, and PS4. With the announcement now public, fans can expect a detailed presentation of the game soon. Additionally, Activision has revealed the beta dates, starting with PlayStation consoles on October 6th. All platforms will eventually have access to the beta. Finally, early access to the campaign will be available on November 2nd for players who purchase the dedicated version. As of now, we eagerly await the first images of the game, which will continue the story right after the last mission of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
