The Effects of Low-Calorie and Caffeine-Free Drinks on Body Fat

According to Scientists, Low-Calorie and Caffeine-Free Drinks Help Reduce Body Fat

According to scientists from the Swedish Karolinska Institute, drinks low in calories and caffeine (tea, coffee without milk) help reduce the amount of fat in the human body.

Caffeine Level in Blood Affects Fat Accumulation

The journal BMJ Medicine indicates that scientists, studying the genetic data of approximately 10,000 people, found that the level of caffeine in the blood affects the accumulation of fat in the body.

Genetic Mutations and Caffeine Breakdown

Scientists say: “Some people have mutations in the CYP1A2 and AHR genes, so the process of breaking down caffeine is slow, allowing it to remain in the blood for a longer period. Higher plasma caffeine levels are associated with a decrease in body mass index and total fat body weight, and the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.”

Short-Term Effects on Weight Loss

Researchers confirm that short-term tests have shown that caffeine consumption leads to weight loss and a reduction in fat mass. They believe that caffeine increases thermogenesis and lipid oxidation (the conversion of fat into energy) in the body, which speeds up metabolism. However, the long-term effects of drinking caffeinated beverages are unknown.
