WhatsApp

In the midst of the River of Madness and the series of horrors that erupted in Sudan with the sound of gunpowder, the explosions of shells, artillery and rocket attacks and the awesome roar of warplanes, in the wake of the outbreak of fighting between the army and Rapid Support three days ago, humanitarian crises in Sudan explode one after another.

Acute shortage of drinking water!

In the midst of these horrific events, crises broke out, to which was added the suffocating crisis of drinking water. Most of the residential areas of the capital Khartoum suffered from an acute shortage of drinking water due to the lack of water supply from stations that provide the inhabitants of Khartoum with drinking water.

This crisis has been further exacerbated by rising temperatures and increased water consumption during the month of Ramadan. The crisis of water and electricity is usually followed by the crisis of bread, which actually began with the appearance of long queues in front of bakeries around Khartoum.

Khartoum Water Authority explains!

In turn, official sources in the Khartoum Water Authority told Al-Arabiya.netthat armed clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces had severely damaged the main waterworks in the Sudanese capital. She explained that she is actively seeking to use the suspended stations in order to ensure a stable supply of water in these exceptional circumstances.

The authorities released a detailed statement on their Facebook page on the current status of the main waterworks in Khartoum over the past hours.

The authorities have confirmed that the water treatment plant in Khartoum North is still not in operation, as it was severely damaged in armed clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, leading to a suffocating water crisis affecting the vast majority of residential areas in Khartoum North .

It said that the National Electricity Administration control team was unable to reach the plant due to the current security situation. The authorities said the station’s restart was contingent on the return of electricity.

As for the waterworks in the Jebel Awliya suburb south of Khartoum, it also stopped due to a power outage, and authorities said they quickly evacuated the station from workers, taking into account current security conditions. The commission confirmed that it had made contact with the commander of the military district there, who refused to risk the lives of workers because the station was considered a war zone, she said.

Regarding the Al-Muqrin water station in Khartoum, the authorities said they reopened it on Saturday after negotiations with the rapid support station, which was based at the aforementioned facility.

And she could operate the station’s high-pressure pumps, but power outages and heavy artillery fire have cut off pumps from the Nile, and to protect the lives of the workers, the authorities will wait for a ceasefire and a calm environment to try to restart the station.

Citizens are resorting to an alternative!

Helpless citizens resorted to available alternatives - temporarily - to alleviate the acuteness of the thirst crisis with continued artillery and rocket attacks, as some citizens resorted to extracting water from underground wells inside the neighborhoods in light of the danger of the Nile River to take water from there. Others have resorted to buying bottled water from stores, but this is not a practical option due to its limited availability, as well as the fact that the vast majority of stores have closed their doors and new shipments of bottled water have not arrived due to the difficulty of moving and transporting vehicles. funds from water bottling plants to residential areas due to the closure of bridges and main roads in Khartoum amid heavy fighting.

One of the townspeople told Al-Arabiya.netthat he had to travel long distances from his residence in the Shambat district in northern Khartoum in search of bottles of water to quench the thirst of his family members.

Conditional intervention of civil defense!

As calls for civil defense police to intervene to deliver potable water via vehicles inside residential areas intensified, official sources told Al-Arabiya.netthat the civil defense brigades must provide some sort of protection, because their movement inevitably belongs to the realm of hostilities.
