Denial of Ukraine’s Use of Anti-Personnel Mines

0

Ukraine denied the use of anti-personnel mines in the conflict with Russia at the annual meeting of the parties to the Ottawa Mine Ban Treaty.

The final statement of the meeting, which took place in Geneva today, on Wednesday, said that representatives of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense confirmed that Ukrainian forces did not use these mines.

The Ottawa Treaty announced that its president would contact Ukraine following the release of a Human Rights Watch report in late January that said Ukrainian forces used anti-personnel mines prohibited by the Ottawa Treaty.

Russia sent a letter to the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary General, in which it accused Ukraine of using the Libystok mines against the civilian population of Donbass, since it is worth noting that Ukraine is one of the signatories of the Ottawa Treaty, which prohibits the use, stockpiling, production and transfer anti-personnel mines.
