South Korean shipbuilder Deson is preparing to build two multipurpose cargo ships for Egypt after beating its Chinese and European competitors by signing a contract with Cairo Ferries and Maritime Transport Company.
The company said it has also signed a memorandum of understanding for the construction of two car ferries with the Cairo Company of the Egyptian Ministry of Transport.
Under the contract, Daison Shipbuilding & Engineering will build two 14,000 dwt multipurpose cargo ships. Two car ferries 190 meters long will also be built, according to the signed memorandum of understanding.
The total amount of the transaction was about 25 million US dollars.
Official representative of Daison Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. said that this amount is about 70 percent of the company’s annual plan.
He added that, given that this deal is the second deal signed by a company on the African continent, after the deal with a Moroccan company in 2021, this will provide an opportunity to strengthen the company’s position on the African continent.
Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel Al-Wazir has asked the CEO of South Korean company Dyson to reduce the cost of the deal on the sidelines of the signing of contracts to build 2 multi-purpose commercial vessels for the Ministry of Transport. .
