Egypt cuts American imports by 28.8%

Egypt announced that it had reduced imports from the Americas by 28.8% to $431.6 million at the start of 2023, compared to $606.3 million in the same period the previous year.

Imports fell by $174.6 million, according to the latest report from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics.

The Egyptian Department of Mobilization and Statistics indicated that imports of grains, oilseeds, medicinal plants and feed fell to $75.2 million in January 2023 from $253.8 million in the corresponding month of the previous year, i.e. by $178.6 million, or 70.4%. , and its imports of boilers also declined. Pharmaceutical imports from the United States of America decreased to US$18.6 million in January 2023 from US$75.7 million in the corresponding month of the previous year, a difference of US$57.1 million, or 75.4 %.

On the other hand, imports of fuels, mineral oils and refined products from America doubled by 721.8% to reach a record $101.1 million in January 2023 compared to $12.3 million in the same period of the previous year, an increase of 88 .8 million dollars. About $83.5 million in January 2023 compared to $13.6 million in the corresponding month of the previous year, an increase of $69.9 million or 514.3%.

It is noteworthy that Egypt’s imports from the world in January 2023 amounted to $6.3 billion compared to $8.8 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year, a decrease of $2.4 billion, or 28.2%.
