Egypt Plans to Resume Gas Exports by October Next Year
Egyptian Oil Minister Tarek El Molla said Wednesday that Egypt intends to export gas again by October next year.
Increase in Local Gas Production
The oil minister added during press statements that most Egyptian production is used locally during the summer, but there is a surplus that can be exported during the winter.
Increased Gas Consumption by Power Plants
The minister added that gas consumption by Egyptian power plants has increased as a result of rising temperatures, as well as due to the desire of the Egyptian government to reduce dependence on diesel fuel for electricity generation with global rising prices for it.
June Exports Affected by Seasonal Factors
The minister said earlier this month that Egypt did not export liquefied natural gas in June due to seasonal factors, including an increase in domestic consumption.
