Egypt Takes the Lead in Most Important Ramadan Cuisine, Surpassing Saudi Arabia and Iran

Egyptian media reports that Egypt ranks first in the world in the production of dates at a rate of 1,748 tons per year, overtaking Saudi Arabia and Iran in its production.

Dates are now being produced with a high market value needed in the international market, especially dates produced by the national project to establish the world’s largest date palm farm on 40,000 acres in Toshka, where statistics confirm a constant and marked increase in the total number fruitful palms, reaching 3 million 600 thousand palms.

And the highest dates production provinces in Egypt were, in order, Aswan, New Valley, Giza, Sharqiya and Buhaira, with 15.5 million palms, in a total area of ​​about 135,000 acres, representing the total area planted with palms in the governorates of Egypt.

Although Egypt has yet to recover from the palm weevil that struck the trees a few years ago, it is considered the world’s largest producer of dates, as it is on par with Saudi Arabia and Iran in terms of production. This is evidenced by statistics and data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

Saudi Arabia is the largest exporter in terms of quantity, with total exports equivalent to 318,000 tons per year, worth $325 million. In terms of consumption, the Sultanate of Oman is witnessing the highest per capita consumption in the world, equivalent to approximately 50 kilograms per person per year.
