Ahmed Fahmi emphasized that the BRICS invitation to Egypt is the culmination of 9 years of growth, efforts, development and careful planning to achieve the goals and results presented in building a strong, growing and viable economy, despite so many difficulties, such as the difficulties faced by Egypt between 2011 and 2014, then multiple regional and international difficulties from 2020.
Continuous Growth of the Egyptian Economy
In his statements, Fahmi added that, despite all this, the Egyptian economy has not stopped growing in these years and has achieved positive growth.
Egypt’s Diverse Relations with the World
The presidential spokesman said that the diversity of relations between Egypt and the countries of the world, whether in the West or in the East, is the principle and main line of the Egyptian state in foreign relations.
He noted that Egypt is an independent regional power capable of establishing equal and equal relations with all countries of the world.
BRICS Group Announcement and Egypt’s Benefits
During the summit this week in Johannesburg, South Africa, the BRICS group announced the admission of six new countries, namely Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia and Argentina, on the condition that the membership of these countries comes into force early next year.
Egyptian Finance Minister Mohamed Maait confirmed that his country’s entry into the “BRICS group” contributes to the expansion of investment and export opportunities and foreign flows.
In turn, Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly stressed that the main goal of the BRICS is the multilateral leadership of the main poles in order to achieve a balance that ensures the common interests of the countries.
What is BRICS and How was it Founded?
BRICS is an economic group that includes Russia, Brazil, China, India and South Africa. Negotiations on its formation began in 2006, and the first summit took place in 2009.
At first, the group included Brazil, Russia, India and China under the name “BRIC”, then in 2011 South Africa joined it and became “BRICS”.
Building a Multipolar International System
The group is working to build a multipolar international political and economic system and break the US-led Western hegemony.
The economic side forms the basis of the group, and its members develop their common economic plans leading to the creation of an economic power capable of resisting the current Western power.
The BRICS countries make up a quarter of the land area, and their population is 40% of the world’s population, and they include emerging economies that compete with the economies of the West.
This group is currently chaired by South Africa, and next year its chairmanship will pass to Russia.
