Over the past few hours, Egypt has decided to impose a series of taxes on entry to foreign films, opera or ballet performances and Egyptian circus performances.
Rami Youssef, Egyptian finance minister’s assistant for tax policy, said the public resource development fee for cinema (at 5%) does not include all cinemas.
He added in a telephone interview with Sada Al-Balad TV that the bill specifies cinemas that show foreign films that cost the state hard currency to make them available in the country.
He pointed out that the price of entrance tickets for Egyptian films was not increased, nor were the prices of tickets to the theater affected, explaining that a 5% price increase had been made for opera and ballet performances.
And although Azza Mostafa described the introduction of 5% as being considered a significant increase, the Assistant Minister replied: “If we assume the ticket costs £100, the increase remains £5 in the first and last, which is an inefficient number. “
He pointed out that the state has given a lot of support to the most needy groups and segments, such as raising the minimum wage, increasing the tax exemption limit and increasing the number of those who join Takaful and Karama, which cost the state 250 billion pounds.
