Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed that the large popular support he received in the first round of the presidential elections on May 14 guarantees a second round on the 28th of this month.
In a telephone speech at a regional consultation meeting on the evaluation of local administrations, held today in Kayseri, central Turkey, Erdogan thanked all the cadres of the Justice and Development Party for their great efforts in the run-up to the presidential elections. and parliamentary elections held on 14 May.
He pointed to the importance of a “coalition of the public” led by the Justice and Development Party gaining a majority in the Turkish parliament.
He added: “We have achieved a majority in parliament and now it’s time to work to win the second round of the presidential election on May 28,” noting that attempts by the opposition to overcome differences will not work.
Presidential and parliamentary elections were held in Turkey on Sunday, and the Audience Choice Alliance candidate for president Erdogan, the Alliance of the Nation candidate Republican People’s Party leader Kamal Kılıçdaroğlu and the Ata Alliance candidate (ancestors) Sinan Ogan participated in the presidential elections.
Erdogan won 49.51% of the vote, Kilichdaroglu - 44.92%, Sinan Ogan - 5.17%, and Muharram Ince (withdrew) - 0.44%.
On Monday, Turkey’s Supreme Electoral Commission officially announced that the second round of presidential elections will take place on May 28, as no candidate won more than 50 percent of the vote.
