Turkish parliament speaker Mustafa Sentub said it was a big mistake for the European Union to sacrifice its strategic relationship with Turkey in exchange for narrow perspectives linked to Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration.
This became known on Tuesday at a closed meeting that Sentop held with the chairman of the Czech Senate, Milos Vystrcil, in the capital of Prague.
According to informed sources, Sentop discussed with Westersil the development of the war in Ukraine, the membership of Finland and Sweden in NATO, as well as the policy of enlargement of the European Union.
Shintub explained that the union relationship with Turkey is a strategic decision and that it would be a big mistake to sacrifice the relationship by indexing some views related to the Greek Cypriot administration or Greece.
He added: “The European Union must make faster and more effective decisions based on reality,” noting that the EU is hesitant and late in reacting to developments in the region and the world.
He stressed that Turkey hopes for a speedy end to the war in Ukraine and achieves this.
Regarding Sweden’s entry into NATO, Sentop confirmed that Turkey’s demand is very clear, namely “that terrorist organizations such as the Kurdistan Workers’ Party and the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) do not receive support from countries that want to be allies.” .
“We expect Sweden to take concrete steps and we want to see that,” he added.
