Federal Judge Rules Trump Liable for Defamatory Statements

A federal judge has made a significant ruling stating that Donald Trump is responsible for defamatory remarks he made about writer E. Jean Carroll in 2019. Carroll had publicly accused Trump of raping her many years ago.

Judge Lewis Kaplan, while granting Carroll a partial summary judgment, stated that the forthcoming trial for her civil lawsuit against Trump will solely focus on determining the amount of monetary damages he must pay her.

This decision, issued in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, marks yet another legal setback for Trump in the lawsuits filed by Carroll.

In a related lawsuit in May, a jury in the same court found Trump guilty of sexually abusing Carroll during an incident at a New York department store in the 1990s. Additionally, the jury determined that Trump had defamed her by denying her allegations. As a result, Trump was ordered to pay Carroll $5 million in damages.
