On Monday, FirstEnergy Corp (NYSE:FE)’s shares declined -1.54% to $35.69, as Ohio Edison and Pennsylvania Power (Penn Power), auxiliaries of FirstEnergy Corp. (FE), will conduct an emergency readiness exercise April 15 to test the companies’ service restoration process when severe weather causes widespread power outages in the region.
Nearly 60 corporation employees will take part in or observe the drill at Ohio Edison’s Distribution Control Center in Akron, and Penn Power’s service center in Clark, Pa. Representatives of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission will observe the Penn Power parts of the drill.
“FirstEnergy’s storm restoration process has been recognized by electric industry organizations over the years for its effectiveness, which is proof that our training exercises work,” said Randall A. Frame, regional president of Ohio Edison and Penn Power. “Whether it’s conducting employee training or investing in our infrastructure, as we head into the summer storm season we want our customers to know we remain vigilant about enhancing service reliability.”
A team of FirstEnergy, Ohio Edison and Penn Power employees have been preparing for months to run the drill, which will roughly follow the same time plan and outage totals for an actual storm that occurred last fall.
