Erdogan: Freedom does not extend to burning the Koran and desecrating others’ shrines

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed today, on Monday, in a speech delivered by him after a government meeting in the capital Ankara, that there is no freedom in burning the Holy Koran and other people’s shrines.

Commenting on the actions of an Iraqi citizen living in Sweden after the police granted him permission to do so in accordance with a court decision, Erdogan explained that: “There is no freedom in burning the Holy Quran, as in burning a church, synagogue, or temple of another religion is not freedom.

He added: “When it comes to their safety, they do not recognize the law, but when it comes to the shrines of Muslims, they suddenly remember the freedom of thought.”

An extremist Swede fulfilled his oath to desecrate the Holy Quran last Wednesday and, under the protection of the authorities, tore up and burned the Holy Quran outside the main mosque in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, after the police granted him permission to do so in accordance with a court decision, which was met with a wave of general condemnation and condemnation in the Arab and Islamic world.

This is not the first time in Sweden, where more than 600,000 Muslims live. On January 21, the leader of the Danish far-right Hard Line Party, Rasmus Paludan, burned a copy of the Koran outside the Turkish embassy in Stockholm under police guard.
