Social network Company to launch ‘Facebook at Work’ in coming months

Share of Technology Sector Moved lower -1.16%

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), is a social networking company. The company plans to release its ” Facebook at Work” social network for business in the ‘coming months.

The new service, geared towards workplace collaboration, offers the same look and feel as Facebook and has the same tools, including News Feed, Groups, Messages and Events.

Julien Codorniou, director of global platform partnerships at Facebook, said almost everything on Facebook at Work is the same as the regular Facebook social network, with some minor exceptions.

“You cannot play Candy Crush on Facebook at Work,” he told Reuters. “I would say 95 per cent of what we developed for Facebook is also adopted for Facebook at Work.”

However, Facebook at Work users will maintain special profiles that are distinct from their existing Facebook profiles. The company is also developing exclusive products for Facebook at Work, including security tools, Codorniou said.

Facebook at Work was created completely for use within a company – that means employees’ Facebook at Work info is safe, secure, confidential and completely separate from their personal Facebook profile,” the company explained earlier this year.

Facebook started beta-testing the service in January and has kept it as a free, “invite-only” service for companies so far. The service will be open to all companies once launched and Facebook plans to charge “a few dollars per month per user” for premium services such as analytics and customer support.

Facebook has been testing its Facebook at Work service with a group of around 300 companies including Heineken, Royal Bank of Scotland and jewellery company Stella and Dot since January. The service will be open to all companies once launched.

The service will not feature adverts or gather data about users, and Facebook plans to charge “a few dollars per month per user” for premium services such as analytics and customer support, a company spokeswoman said.
