Friday’s Trade News Buzz on: Nielsen NV (NYSE:NLSN), Winnebago Industries, (NYSE:WGO), Raptor Pharmaceutical (NASDAQ:RPTP), Knowles (NYSE:KN)

On Friday, Nielsen NV (NYSE:NLSN)’s shares declined -0.36% to $44.76.

Nielsen NV (NLSN) long known for its dominant position in television ratings, last week added another prominent neuromarketing firm, Innerscope Research, to its stable. This is noteworthynot just from the standpoint of the companies involved, but for what it says about the not-so-nascent field of consumer neuroscience.

Clearly concerned about the viability of survey-based media ratings as a business model, Nielsen began diversifying its approach years ago. In 2008, the firm bought a minority interest in NeuroFocus, a Berkeley-based firm that was one of the most prominent players in the neuromarketing space. NeuroFocus used EEG brain wave measurement as its primary method for gauging viewer response to ads, packaging, and products.

With the acquisition of Innerscope Research, Nielsen has further bolstered its position and signaled its commitment to neuromarketing. The combined unit is called Nielsen Consumer Neuroscience.

The acquisition of Innerscope also enhances the credibility of the overall Nielsen effort. Innerscope has been one of the few neuromarketing firms encouraging academic studies using its technology in addition to publishing results of specific projects.

Nielsen N.V. operates as an information and measurement company. The company provides media and marketing information, analytics, and manufacturer and retailer expertise about what and where consumers buy, read, watch and listen. Its Buy segment provides data on retail measurement services, such as market share and competitive sales volumes; insights into distribution, pricing, merchandising, and promotion; consumer panel measurement, which offers insight into shopper behavior and customer segmentation; and consumer intelligence and analytical services for decision making in development and marketing cycles.

\Winnebago Industries, Inc. (NYSE:WGO)’s shares dropped -5.53% to $20.49.

Both professional and amateur athletes from around the world take part in the games — now in their 14th year. Events comprise a mountain bike race up Vail Mountain and rafting on the whitewater of Gore Creek in Vail Village.

Winnebago Industries, Inc. manufactures and sells recreation vehicles primarily for use in leisure travel and outdoor recreation activities. Knowles Corp (NYSE:KN), ended its Friday’s trading session with -0.84% loss, and closed at $18.84.

Knowles Corp (KN) declared that it has introduced the most advanced Inter-IC Sound, or I²S, interface MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) microphone for wearables, remote controllers, automotive, and smart home automation and security.

Knowles’ solution is superior in size and power consumption, with a 25 percent smaller footprint and 40 percent lower current consumption than competitive products. Using this I²S interface, the bottom port digital MEMS microphone allows manufacturers to connect directly to application processors or microcontrollers. The result is a more efficient architecture due to reduced complexity, raised battery performance, and lower bill of material cost.

This innovation is especially important for space constrained devices such as wearables, which have a very small board size that puts a premium on component space. The new technology easily integrates with existing mobile device architecture and simplifies system integration through a direct connection to signal processors.

Knowles Corporation designs, manufactures, and sells products and components to the mobile communications, consumer electronics, medical technology, telecommunications infrastructure, military, aerospace, and industrial markets worldwide. The company operates in two segments, Mobile Consumer Electronics and Specialty Components. The Mobile Consumer Electronics segment designs and manufactures acoustic products, including microphones, speakers, receivers, and integrated modules for the handset, tablet, and other consumer electronic markets.
