Dayton Power and Light (DP&L), a partner of The AES Corporation, is participating in a program with Argonne National Laboratories, Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance and AEP Ohio, a unit of American Electric Power (AEP), to encourage distributors of commercial products to sell energy efficient cogged (or notched) V-belts.
The pilot program, which runs through October, is attempting to transform the market and move businesses toward the use of cogged V-belts, which run cooler, last longer and use two to three percent less energy than the standard smooth V-belt, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.
V-belts are used in electric motors in both industrial and commercial markets. Cogged V-belts have perpendicular slots on the belt’s length that reduce a belt’s bending resistance and improve power transmission of motor systems.
Two participating distributors – Allied Supply and Johnstone Supply – can earn incentives for increasing sales of cogged belts during the program by encouraging customers to make the smart energy choice and switch to the cogged V-belt.
Allied Supply has participating locations in Dayton, Lima and Columbus. Johnstone Supply’s Columbus location is participating in the pilot program.
The AES Corporation operates as a diversified power generation and utility company. It owns and/or operates power plants to generate and sell power to customers, such as utilities, industrial users, and other intermediaries.
