Pre-Market News Buzz on: Applied Materials, (NASDAQ:AMAT), XOMA Corporation, (NASDAQ:XOMA), Celgene Corporation, (NASDAQ:CELG)

On Monday, Shares of Applied Materials, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMAT), gained 0.71% to $19.86.

Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (CDNS) and Applied Materials, Inc. (AMAT) declared the companies are collaborating on a development program to optimize the chemical-mechanical planarization (CMP) process through silicon characterization and modeling for advanced-node designs at 14 nanometer (nm) and below. The program allows design teams to predict the impact of CMP on both functional yield and parametric yield, and for manufacturing teams to boost planarization performance, which is increasingly critical for advanced FinFET architectures.

The Cadence® and Applied Materials joint development program is focused on front end-of-line (FEOL) and wafer-level CMP modeling. Applied Materials can use the Cadence CMP Process Optimizer, a tool that allows silicon calibration of semi-physical models and optimization of CMP material and process parameters such as pressure, polish time and overall CMP uniformity, to enhance the precision performance of its Reflexion® LK Prime™ CMP system.

Once models are calibrated, design teams can leverage Cadence CMP Predictor, a tool that enhances design performance and yield through model-based CMP hotspot detection and CMP-aware RC extraction. It provides full-chip, multi-level CMP thickness and topography predictions for shallow trench isolation (STI) and replacement metal gate (RMG) CMP processes.

Applied Materials, Inc. provides manufacturing equipment, services, and software to the semiconductor, flat panel display, solar photovoltaic (PV), and related industries worldwide. The company’s Silicon Systems Group segment develops, manufactures, and sells a range of manufacturing equipment used to fabricate semiconductor chips or integrated circuits.

Shares of XOMA Corporation (NASDAQ:XOMA), inclined 10.31% to $4.28, during its last trading session.

XOMA Corporation, declared XOMA 358, a fully human allosteric monoclonal antibody that reduces both the binding of insulin to its receptor and downstream insulin signaling, has been granted Orphan Drug Designation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of congenital hyperinsulinism (HI).

Orphan drug designation is granted by the FDA Office of Orphan Products Development (OOPD) to novel drugs or biologics that treat a rare disease or condition affecting fewer than 200,000 patients in the United States. The designation provides the drug developer with a seven-year period of U.S. marketing exclusivity, in addition to tax credits for clinical research costs, the ability to apply for annual grant funding, clinical research trial design assistance, and waiver of Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) filing fees. The OOPD also works on rare disease issues with the medical and research communities, professional organizations, academia, governmental agencies, industry, and rare disease patient groups.

XOMA Corporation discovers and develops antibody-based therapeutics in the United States, Europe, and the Asia Pacific. The company’s lead product candidate comprises gevokizumab, a proprietary humanized allosteric-modulating monoclonal antibody that binds to the inflammatory cytokine interleukin-1 beta, which is in Phase III clinical trial for NIU and Behçet’s disease uveitis, pyoderma gangrenosum, active non-infectious anterior scleritis, autoimmune inner ear disease, and cardiovascular diseases, in addition to diseases under the neutrophilic dermatoses designation, Schnitzler syndrome, and other diseases.

Finally, Celgene Corporation (NASDAQ:CELG), ended its last trade with 1.97% gain, and closed at $119.53.

On June 12, Celgene International Sàrl, a wholly-owned partner of Celgene Corporation (CELG) declared updated results of its pivotal phase III FIRSTTM (MM-020/IFM 07-01) trial, comparing continuous REVLIMID® (lenalidomide) plus low-dose dexamethasone (continuous Rd) to a fixed duration of 18 cycles of Rd (72 weeks) (Rd18) or 12 cycles of melphalan, prednisone and thalidomide (72 weeks) (MPT) for the treatment of transplant ineligible patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma. The results, as part of the Regulatory submissions which led to the REVLIMID® label expansion in the US and EU in February 2015, were presented during the European Hematology Association annual congress.

In the study, the primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS) and the primary analysis was between continuous Rd and MPT. Overall survival was a secondary endpoint, together with response rate, duration of response, time to response, safety, time to second-line anti-myeloma treatment and best response achieved to second-line anti-myeloma treatment.

An updated analysis of progression-free survival (PFS) demonstrated a median of 26.0 months for patients treated with continuous Rd contrast with 21.9 months for MPT (HR 0.69 (95% CI, 0.59‐0.80) p=0.00031). The median PFS for Rd18 was 21.0 months.

Celgene Corporation, a biopharmaceutical company, discovers, develops, and commercializes therapies to treat cancer and inflammatory diseases in the United States and Internationally. It markets REVLIMID, an oral immunomodulatory drug for multiple myeloma, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and mantle cell lymphoma; ABRAXANE, a solvent-free chemotherapy product to treat breast, non-small cell lung, pancreatic, and gastric cancers.
