Pre-Market News Buzz on: Arrowhead Research (NASDAQ:ARWR), Pier 1 Imports (NYSE:PIR), Murphy Oil (NYSE:MUR), Etsy (NASDAQ:ETSY)

On Friday, Arrowhead Research Corp (NASDAQ:ARWR)’s shares inclined 1.06% to $6.68.

Arrowhead Research Corp (ARWR) declared that its Clinical Trial Application for ARC-520, its clinical candidate for chronic hepatitis B infection (HBV), has been approved by Germany’s Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices. The company now has regulatory clearance in Germany for two additional Phase 2b multiple-dose studies of ARC-520 to be conducted in parallel. Arrowhead awaits final IRB approval from the sites, which are predictable shortly, and in addition, the company is engaged with regulatory authorities from Hong Kong and South Korea to open additional sites for these studies. Arrowhead will provide guidance in the future on timing for release of data from these studies.

The studies titled Heparc-2002 and Heparc-2003 will enroll patients with chronic HBV infection that are e-antigen (HBeAg) negative and HBeAg positive, respectively. Each study is a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multi-dose study intended to evaluate two dose levels in parallel of ARC-520 in combination with entecavir or tenofovir in patients with immune active chronic HBV infection. The 2002 and 2003 studies are planned to enroll up to 60 and 90 patients, respectively. In each study, patients will be randomized to receive four doses, once every 4 weeks, of either 1 mg/kg ARC-520, 2 mg/kg ARC-520, or placebo at a ratio of 1:1:1.

Arrowhead Research Corporation develops novel drugs to treat intractable diseases in the United States. The company’s principal product candidates comprise ARC-520, an RNAi-based therapeutic that is in Phase IIa clinical trial to treat chronic hepatitis B virus infection; and ARC-AAT, a novel unlocked nucleobase analog containing RNAi-based therapeutic for the treatment of liver disease associated with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. Pier 1 Imports Inc (NYSE:PIR)’s shares gained 1.19% to $12.77.

Pier 1 Imports, Inc. (PIR) declared that Jeffrey N. Boyer, 57, has been named Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, effective July 27, 2015. Mr. Boyer will have responsibility for Pier 1 Imports’ financial operations and accounting, counting financial reporting, planning and analysis, accounting, treasury, tax and investor relations. Laura A. Coffey will continue to serve in her role as Executive Vice President and Interim Chief Financial Officer until Mr. Boyer’s appointment becomes effective, at which time she will be named to a separate executive position within the Company.

Pier 1 Imports, Inc. engages in the retail sale of decorative home furnishings, furniture, gifts, and related items. At the end of Friday’s trade, Murphy Oil Corporation (NYSE:MUR)‘s shares dipped -1.50% to $40.06.

Murphy Oil Corporation (MUR) declared that it has reached a variable term, capped accelerated share repurchase transaction (the “ASR”) with Wells Fargo Bank, National Association, to repurchase an aggregate of $250 million of the Company`s common stock. The ASR is part of the board authorized program declared on August 6, 2014, to repurchase up to $500 million of the Company`s stock. The total aggregate number of shares of Company common stock to be repurchased following the ASR will be determined by reference to the Rule 10b-18 volume-weighted price of the Company`s common stock, less a fixed discount, over the term of the ASR, subject to a minimum number of shares. The ASR is predictable to be accomplished no later than about three months following execution. All shares of the Company`s common stock delivered under the ASR will be right away stepped down or converted to treasury shares.

Murphy Oil Corporation operates as an oil and gas exploration and production company worldwide. It explores for and produces crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids. The company was formerly known as Murphy Corporation and changed its name to Murphy Oil Corporation in 1964. Murphy Oil Corporation was founded in 1950 and is headquartered in El Dorado, Arkansas.

Etsy Inc (NASDAQ:ETSY), ended its Friday’s trading session with 2.04% gain, and closed at $16.53.

Etsy Inc (ETSY) shares are getting a bit of a reprieve Tuesday courtesy of Tiger Global Administration LLC, but that hasn’t been enough to push the stock back above its initial public offering price.

Late Monday, Tiger Global, the firm founded by Chase Coleman, a protege of legendary investor Julian Robertson’s Tiger Administration, revealed in a regulatory filing that its stake in Etsy stood at 8.9% as of May 28. At the time of Etsy’s IPO on April 16, Tiger owned 7.3% of Etsy’s shares.

Etsy’s stock shot up more than 4%, and by early afternoon, it traded at $15.49 per share.

Even with the Tiger bump, that’s still more than 3% below its $16 initial public offering price and 57% below its all-time high since its April IPO.

Tiger’s apparent vote of confidence in Etsy comes at a key moment. Etsy’s stock closed nearly 88% above its IPO price in its public market’s debut. The company sold 16.7 millions, raising about $267 million.

A little more than a month later Etsy’s first-quarter earnings spooked investors and pushed shares down 18%. The stock has fallen steadily since then and closed below its IPO price for the first time last week. That is — until Tuesday’s trading.
