On Thursday, Shares of General Electric Company (NYSE:GE), gained 1.22% to $27.37.

GE Software (GE) declared it will partner with Girls Who Code – a national non-profit organization that seeks to inspire, educate and equip girls with computing skills for the 21st century – to host a Summer Immersion Program at its headquarters in the greater Silicon Valley area. The acclaimed seven-week course engages 20 local high school junior and senior girls in tech disciplines from mobile app development to robotics and web design.

The GE Software curriculum comprises workshops on design thinking and user experience, seminars on security, robotics, data visualization, data science and a STEM panel featuring GE’s leading women in technology. New this year, the girls will make a trip to the University of San Francisco for an introduction to the school’s computer science program, tour of the facilities and opportunity to audit a class. The program culminates in the development of a product, which the girls present to their peers and GE Software technology experts.

Presently, women make up the majority of the labor force nationwide but hold only 25% of the jobs in computing and technical fields. By 2020, there will be 1.4 million jobs accessible in related fields, but women educated in the U.S. are only on pace to filling 3% of these positions.

General Motors Company, said recently that Fitch Ratings has raised the credit ratings of both GM and GM Financial to investment grade. With this upgrade, the corporate credit ratings for GM are now investment grade with all major rating agencies.

“Fitch’s news today confirms that we are delivering on our commitment to generate strong operating results and implement our customer-focused strategy,” GM CEO Mary Barra said. “But, as much as we like this recognition, we are focused on achieving even stronger performance and enhancing long-term shareholder value in the years to come.”

The new GM corporate and GM Financial credit ratings assigned by Fitch are BBB- with a “stable” outlook. Each credit rating is one level higher than the previous GM and GM Financial ratings of BB+, which were assigned by Fitch in August 2012 and August 2013, respectively.

General Motors Company designs, builds, and sells cars, crossovers, trucks, and automobile parts worldwide. It operates through GM North America, GM Europe, GM International Operations, GM South America, and GM Financial segments.

Finally, Banco Santander, S.A. (NYSE:SAN), ended its last trade with 2.54% gain, and closed at $7.26.

Santander Bank, N. A. and the American Red Cross declared that the Santander Bank Foundation donated $175,000 to the organization to support its disaster relief efforts. The Massachusetts Region is receiving $75,000 to directly fund a new disaster recovery center that will assist connect organizations together to coordinate care during times of need.

The American Red Cross of Massachusetts will use the donation for disaster relief counting natural and man-made disasters. The Red Cross responds to hurricanes, blizzards, floods, hazardous materials spills and other emergencies but the majority of the Red Cross’ response is to home fires across the state. The Red Cross recently created the national Home Fire Campaign aimed at reducing injuries and deaths related to home fires by 25 percent over the next five years.

Another key component to disaster response is a central command center for managing relief efforts with first responders and other agencies. Among its key functions, the DOC allows volunteers and staff to coordinate the administration of equipment and supplies, and the coordination of responders who can provide relief to those affected by disaster. The DOC will enable the Massachusetts Region, one of the largest in the Red Cross network, be better prepared to deliver critical services when the need arises.
