Pre-Market News Review: Cisco Systems, (NASDAQ:CSCO), International Paper Company, (NYSE:IP), KeyCorp., (NYSE:KEY)

On Monday, Shares of Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO), lost -0.31% to $28.94.

As industrial markets evolve to unlock the promise of the Internet of Things (IoT), Rockwell Automation and Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) declared new additions to their Converged Plantwide Ethernet (CPwE) architectures to assist operations technology (OT) and information technology (IT) professionals address constantly changing security practices. The latest CPwE security expansions, featuring technology from both companies, comprise design guidance and validated architectures to assist build a more secure network across the plant and enterprise.

The Industrial IoT is elevating the need for highly flexible, secure connectivity between things, machines, work flows, databases and people, enabling new models of policy-based plant floor access. Through these new connections, machine data on the plant floor can be analyzed and applied to determine optimal operation and supply-chain work flows for improved efficiencies and cost savings. A securely connected environment also enables organizations to mitigate risk with policy compliance, and protects intellectual property with secure sharing between global stakeholders.

Core to the new validated architectures is a focus on enabling OT and IT professionals to utilize security policies and procedures by forming multiple layers of defense. A defense-in-depth approach assists manufacturers by establishing processes and policies that identify and contain evolving threats in industrial automation and control systems. The new CPwE architectures leverage open industry standards, such as IEC 62443, and provide recommendations for more securely sharing data across an industrial demilitarized zone, in addition to enforcing policies that control access to the plantwide wired or wireless network.

Rockwell Automation and Cisco have created resources to assist manufacturers efficiently deploy security solutions. Each new guide is accompanied by a white paper summarizing the key design principles, as follows:

  • The Industrial Demilitarized Zone Design and Implementation Guide and white paper provide guidance to users on securely sharing data from the plant floor through the enterprise.

 

  • The Identity Services Design and Implementation Guide and white paper introduce an approach to security policy enforcement that tightly controls access by anyone inside the plant, whether they’re trying to connect via wired or wireless access.

Cisco Systems, Inc. designs, manufactures, and sells Internet Protocol (IP) based networking products and services related to the communications and information technology industry worldwide. It provides switching products, counting fixed-configuration and modular switches, and storage products that provide connectivity to end users, workstations, IP phones, wireless access points, and servers.

Shares of International Paper Company (NYSE:IP), declined -2.87% to $49.67, during its last trading session.

Finally, KeyCorp. (NYSE:KEY), ended its last trade with 1.45% gain, and closed at $15.43.

On June 9, The KeyBank Foundation has declared a grant of $2 million to Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) which will support a combined effort to enhance and expand medical students’ interprofessional education experiences. The interprofessional education model, which focuses on integrating all disciplines in teaching and learning environments, is “a necessary step in preparing a ‘collaborative, practice-ready’ health workforce,” in addition to improving patient health outcomes, according to a report by the World Health Organization.

“With this grant, we are excited to expand our relationship with Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University,” said CEO of KeyBank Foundation Margot Copeland. “The interprofessional model is the future of medical education, and supporting two top medical institutions as they transform how medicine is taught and delivered is an honor.”

The grant support is two-fold. At the Cleveland Clinic, it will renew and grow the KeyBank Minority Medical Student Fellowship presently in place at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine by doubling the number of scholars to a total of 10 during the grant period. The scholarships allow the students to receive support throughout their education towards graduation and assist to ensure the student body is diverse and reflective of the communities served. Additionally, the grant will assist fund Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine’s (CCLM) outreach initiatives aimed at underserved communities, counting the annual Minority Men’s Health Fair and Celebrate Sisterhood.

The KeyBank Foundation, a 46-year old nonprofit charitable foundation funded by KeyCorp, makes philanthropic investments in organizations and programs that build thriving communities.
